AD – I was contacted by a social media marketing company on behalf of German Doner Kebab. They asked if I would visit, take photos and post on my Instagram (@thefoodlife_GLA ) in exchange for a meal for two.
We visited GDK on a Saturday at 1:00pm. It was quite busy which was a good sign. We queued as soon as we entered as it seemed that you couldn’t get to the tables without going through the queue first.
After waiting in the queue for a few minutes David went to grab a table near the window. I always try to get a table with natural light as it’s better for photos.
We queued a little longer than usual as unfortunately the card machine system had gone down and the manager was doing his best to fix it. These things happen.
Once we ordered we were given a buzzer to place on the table and our food arrived relatively quickly. I decided to go for the Kcal kebab with chicken whilst David went for Doner kebab with beef.
My kebab was incredible. I didn’t have much to compare it to other than my local kebab shop in the town I grew up in in the Highlands of Scotland. I knew it wasn’t going to be gourmet like Babs either. The chicken was crispy on the outside but still tender in the middle. There was plenty of it too along with plenty of onions, red cabbage and lettuce. Like @blondieandthefeast , I too found that the sauce accumulated at the bottom. Such a shame as it was so delicious.
The wholemeal bread was fresh and tasty. I love to try and be healthy by eating wholemeal bread but feel like it’s never as good as white bread. Trust me though, that was not the case here.
Another bonus of GDK is that they serve tango ice blasts! I feel like they may get many visits simply for this delight. Although I have no idea how anyone ever gets through a large one as I could barely finish my small one.
All in all we had a great visit to GDK. I was impressed by the overall freshness of the ingredients especially as it is a fast food chain. The kebabs left us feeling full for hours without being greasy and making us feel lethargic.
I can’t wait to go back!
